The Ultimate Guide to

Iceman

"The Master of Cold"

Second Series (Foreign Release)
No accessories

Although the X-Men were a part of the Secret Wars limited series, Bobby Drake (a.k.a. the Iceman) was not among their ranks at the time. Iceman had been part of the Champions and the new Defenders and would later rejoin the original X-Men to form X-Factor. Eventually coming full circle he would also rejoin the X-Men. However, he was not part of the Secret Wars limited series (Iceman had his own four issue limited series the same year). The Iceman figure was truly uninspiring. It appears to be a remold of the Daredevil torso and arms with Captain America's legs. Molded in a shimmering white plastic with a few paint details, this figure was only sold in foreign markets. As an interesting footnote, this character was known as "Iceberg" in France. No expalnation for the name change can be found.

Given the slipping popularity of the entire line, Mattel decided to dump its remaining figures onto the foreign market. Iceman and the other two foreign release figures (Electro and the Constrictor) are among the rarest of all the Secret Wars figures. Apparently planned as part of a third wave of figures, these remaining characters have become the most valuable collector's items of the entire line.

Difficult to find either loose or carded, Iceman and his two compatriots marked the end of the Secret Wars line with a whimper. Iceman would re-appear in several incarnations under Toy Biz's X-Men line in the 1990's.
