Play Along Toys & Art Asylum:
Star Trek and Other Musings

The Star Trek product line from Art Asylum will be continuing, but not at mass market stores, just in specialty and comic book stores. The third series of Classic Star Trek action figures will be released in the late Fall of 2004. Art Asylum plans to focus on aliens for this series, starting with the Gorn and an Orion Slave Girl. Concept art was shown for these two characters, along with concept art for two figures which will not be made: Kirk and Spock from Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan.

On the Play Along Toys side of the showroom, The Dog plush toy line will be continuing, and will be expanded with the addition of The Cat. Both kinds of plush animals are based on the famous foreshortened photographs, so that their heads are as large (if not larger than) their bodies. The new breeds to be introduced in 2004 are the Siberian Husky, the Pomeranian, the Border Collie, the Jack Russell Terrier, the St. Bernard, and the Pekingese.

The Care Bears are also continuing, new for 2004 are the Glow-A-Lot Bears (Love-a-Lot, Bedtime, Wish, Funshine, Share, and Friend), beanie versions of the Care Bears, and Care Bear Cousins (Brave Heart Lion, Lotsa Heart Elephant, Swift Heart Rabbit). (Read a press release about the Care Bears.)

Another product line that may be familiar to you is the Teletubbies. Play Along has plans to create small plastic figures, small-scale plush, talking plush, jumbo plush, and "tub time" plush versions of the four Teletubby characters: Tinky Winky, Po, Laa-Laa, and Dipsy. The Tubby Talk plush toys come with a VHS episode of the television series.

Another product line for the younger set in 2004 will be the Wheels on the Bus. Play Along will be making plastic and plush toy vehicles, figures, and playsets.
