Duncan Sportsline Yo-Yos

sportsline yo-yo

July 2003 - Originally released in 1965, the Duncan® Sportsline™ was the last line of yo-yos released by the original Duncan company before it was purchased by Flambeau®, Duncan's parent company since 1967. And now, with their 75th Anniversary just around the corner, Duncan has decided to re-release the Sportsline with a new look for today's kids.

The Duncan Sportsline is a line of novelty yo-yos shaped like sports balls. The line includes the Baseball, Basketball, Soccer Ball, Football, Tennis Ball, and Golf Ball. In addition, there is a special, limited edition 8-Ball yo-yo, which can only be acquired by mailing in six proofs-of-purchase from any of the Sportsline yo-yos. Yo-yo collectors everywhere will definitely want all seven of these exciting yo-yos!

To help distinguish from the original Duncan Sportsline, some of the ball models have been changed. The Bowling Ball has been replaced with the Football, and the Tennis Ball has been added. Additionally, the 8-Ball was previously available for sale as part of the regular line. The 8-Ball yo-yo is now a special mail-away edition only. Since first showing the Sportsline at New York Toy Fair, Duncan has already started receiving requests from yo-yo collectors inquiring about the availability of the special 8-Ball yo-yo. It's an instant success!

The impetus for the original Sportsline was a 1964 promotion that Duncan executed for AMF® Bowling Supplies. Bowling Ball yo-yos, called the "Bo-Yo" were introduced, and promotions took place across the United States, as well as at the 1964 World's Fair. The original Bo-Yo promotion was a huge success, and lead to the development of the Sportsline Series.

Retailing at $3.99 a yo-yo, the 3500SK 18-piece sidekick merchandiser displays nine facings while carrying six different sports balls rated by weight of sales of the more popular sports ball model (i.e. football, baseball vs. tennis ball). Also available in a standard 12 pack case, 3500SL, for replenishment and in-line merchandising.
