NYCC Hosts Comic Book Idol Winner

NEW YORK COMIC CON PLAYS HOST TO COMIC BOOK IDOL WINNER

Event Organizers Seek Ways to Encourage New Talent

Deadline for Free Registration for Professionals and Creators is December 1!!!

Norwalk, CT, November 29, 2007: New York Comic Con (NYCC) officials are eager to recognize up and coming artistic talent in the world of comics and have announced that they will provide an all-expense paid trip to this year's convention for the winner of the 2007 Comic Book Idol 3 Contest. CBI 3, which is administered and hosted by www.comicbookresources.com, has rapidly become a source of encouragement and recognition for talented artists who are eager to jump start their careers in the world of comics.

This year's winner is Jon Reed, an accounting assistant from Alexandria, VA, who will be met at New York Comic Con by Comic Book Idol host and comic book writer J. Torres, who will help introduce him to industry leaders over the course of the three day weekend. NYCC will be held April 18 - 20, 2008 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan. In addition to this trip to New York City, Jon Reed also gets assignments from IDW Publishing, Oni Press and Image Comics for winning the contest.

"Comic Book Idol is an awesome way to provide the introductions and networking opportunities that are the key to getting your career off the ground," notes Lance Fensterman, Show Manager for NYCC. "No matter how great an artist you are, you have to have some connections to get started. It seemed only logical that we partner up with CBI 3 since networking is what New York Comic Con is all about! What better place to bring attention to new talent? These artists represent the future of the industry and it's important for everyone to take notice. We will be making some more announcements in the near future about other activities specifically geared to new artists that will be taking place at New York Comic Con."

Jonah Weiland, Executive Producer of Comicbookresources.com, notes: "We are extremely pleased that there has been such a positive reaction to CBI 3 and we're very happy that New York Comic Con will play host to Jon Reed. This is a great opportunity for him and it's one more reason for all those would-be Comic Book Idols to feel encouraged. We are already working on our plans for 2008 which will make Comic Book Idol even more engaging!"

Reed competed for his CBI 3 title against an increasingly diverse global field of artists, with contestants ranging from the United States, England, Brazil and Canada. In addition, fans flocked to the competition - combookresources.com experienced a 500% increase in new traffic to its forum during the Comic Book Idol contest.

In a related announcement, NYCC officials only half-jokingly note that Jon Reed just makes the December 1st cut off for free registration for professionals and creators! This year, in another move to facilitate and encourage artistic involvement in the show, NYCC has provided free registration for all professional creators. Previously, artists and creators were only allowed free registration to the show through their respective publishers and/or exhibitors. Show organizers note, however, that the December 1st deadline for this special offer is real. Any professional who wishes to gain free admission to the show by submitting their application independently of an exhibitor MUST do so immediately.
