WAYNE, N.J., Nov. 28, 2007 -- Today, Toys"R"Us has announced its list of the small treasures sure to find themselves at the bottom of kids' stockings on Christmas morning. Instead of stockings, children in the Netherlands fill their shoes with treats for reindeer to eat, with Santa leaving presents in return. In Italy, gifts come from a fairy queen who places presents in a jar, while in Puerto Rico and Spain children put boxes filled with flowers and food under their beds for the camels of the Three Kings to eat.

The American tradition of stocking stuffers began with a Dutch story of a poor nobleman who could not afford to pay for his daughters' weddings. Knowing that the nobleman would never accept charity, St. Nicholas tossed money into the daughters' stockings as they hung by the chimney to dry. Just as St. Nick assisted a parent in the original stocking stuffer tale, the annual list released today by Toys"R"Us is designed to help parents fill their kids' stockings with the perfect gifts.
