Scooby Doo To Scare Up Treats At Burger King

bk_scooby_promo.gif - 13388 BytesScooby-Doo, the most loved dog ever in cartoon history, will be bringing his detective agency pals to participating U.S. BURGER KING restaurants for four weeks, October 9 - November 5, in celebration of Halloween 2000. The BURGER KING BIG KIDS MEAL™ program will feature eight themed toys -- two each week -- around the classic Scooby-Doo property with elements included from the all-new feature-length movie, ``Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders,'' which debuted only on videocassette and DVD on October 3. These toys not only wind up, rotate, or fly, but they also glow in the dark! The promotion is scheduled for all participating restaurants in the U.S., while supplies last.

``To millions of kids, Scooby-Doo is synonymous with Halloween because of the spooky characters, eerie sounds and mystery story lines,'' said Richard Taylor, vice president of USA Marketing for Burger King Corporation. ``We also know that Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time. In fact, the Cartoon Network currently airs a Scooby-Doo series 33 times per week. Burger King Corporation is delighted to bring this classic character to kids of all ages this Halloween season.''

Halloween is the third most popular holiday with young children and ``tweens,'' scoring right below Christmas and Valentine's Day. This Scooby-Doo promotion marks the fourth Burger King tie-in with the scariest holiday of the year.

In support of the BURGER KINGScooby-Doo program, the Cartoon Network will air the first two direct-to-home video titles, ``Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island'' and ``Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost,'' in October as well as the annual Scooby-Doo Halloween Marathon. Burger King will support the promotion with three weeks of kids-directed advertising, as well as with extensive in- restaurant merchandise. To add excitement to the Halloween tie-in, Burger King Corporation will also offer customers the chance to enter a Scooby-Doo sweepstakes featuring an ``Ultimate Gamer's Package'' and the chance to become a Scooby-Doo Video Game character as the Grand Prize. The gamer's package includes a big screen television, VCR, and Nintendo hardware and software. The Grand Prize winner will also receive a four-day trip for four to Los Angeles to record his or her voice that will be used in an upcoming Scooby-Doo video game due for release in 2001. Hundreds of cool prizes including Nintendo and PlayStation computer game software and videos will also be awarded. The sweepstakes contest will be publicized in-restaurant, on themed packaging and in print advertising.

The eight Scooby-Doo glow-in-the-dark toys are:

  • Roll-Around Alien: when wound up, the glow-in-the-dark alien encased in a sphere rolls around and changes direction when it encounters an obstacle;
  • Clip n' Glow Scooby-Doo: a plush toy with glow features for Scooby's eyes and the clip;
  • Scared Silly Shaggy: a wind-up toy that falls apart when the knob on Shaggy's back is pushed that comes with a cool glo-in-the-dark sticker;
  • Fright in Glowing Armor: a glow-in-the-dark armor shell that opens to reveal a bendable Shaggy toy;
  • Speakin' Scooby-Doo: a tiny toy with glow-in-the-dark bone that says ``Scooby-Dooby-Doo!'' when activated;
  • Alien Attack Mystery Machine™: this windable, moveable toy comes complete with a glow-in-the-dark UFO rotating around it;
  • Scooby-Doo and Shaggy's Alienship Adventure: push the button to activate the glow element and watch as Scooby and Shaggy fly around the ship;
  • Scramblin' Scooby-Doo: caught between a glow-in-the-dark monster and a glowing Scooby Snack, Scooby scrambles across a string when you pull on the monster.
