Animated Lady Death on DVD

HOUSTON -- October 6, 2004 -- Move over all you Freddys and Jasons, Halloween has a new character invading the minds of America's youth and she's a lady! Lady Death(R), the enormously popular comic character, debuted in her first animated film, Lady Death(R): The Motion Picture, on October 5 at video stores nationwide.

Lady Death(R): The Motion Picture is the first animated feature produced by ADV Films, the #1 producer-distributor of anime in the U.S. To ensure the film would deliver a unique and original vision, ADV Films brought together some of its finest talents and incorporated them with some of the best animators and musicians in the business. Working together, this all-star team has created an action-packed adventure sure to delight fans this Halloween and for many dark and scary nights to come.

Set in 15th Century Sweden, Lady Death(R): The Motion Picture is the story of Hope, the beautiful daughter of a skilled mercenary, Matthias, who in actuality is Lucifer, the Lord of Lies. Hope is accused by local villagers of being the devil's consort and is sentenced to be burned at the stake. Instead of accepting the painful death, she accepts Lucifer's offer of life in Hell, only to later reject his scheme when he transforms her into the powerful warrior Lady Death. Having drawn the ire of Lucifer, Lady Death suddenly finds herself challenging the Lord of Lies for control of Hell itself, in a powerful story of innocence lost, savage betrayal and glorious rebirth.

"Halloween is the perfect time to introduce Lady Death to an entirely new audience," explains John Ledford, founder and CEO of ADV Films. "Comic book fans have followed this dark fantasy for years and we are thrilled to bring her to life in a stunningly animated,
high-action adventure
."

Kevin Corcoran, who serves as an Executive Producer of the film, adds: "In the spirit of the anime action genre, this film is full of non-stop fight scenes that pits atrocious and appalling characters in a battle for supremacy. We have been screening the film at anime conventions and fans and critics alike give Lady Death a big 'Thumbs Up!'"

This animated masterpiece was directed and produced by first-time director Andrew Orjuela, who also conceptualized the dazzling animation. The screenplay was written by Carl Macek, who served as developer and story editor for "Robotech," producer of the English-language version of Miyazaki's classic "My Neighbor Totoro," and producer and director of the English-language version of "Vampire Hunter D." ADV Films also worked closely with Lady Death creator, Brian Pulido, in capturing the true essence of the diva of death herself. Composer Bill Brown, who has worked with directors Steven Spielberg, Clive Barker and Oliver Stone among others, developed the original musical score for this epic tale.

"It's a very exciting time for ADV Films and myself," said Orjuela. "As a huge fan of comic books and anime films, I hope to incorporate the best of both worlds and deliver a film that will entertain fans by staying true to the integrity of the character, while using both old and new animation techniques to tell an epic story that all people can relate to."
