Easy-Bake's Baker of the Year

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- April 30, 2003 -- The EASY-BAKE Oven is turning 40 years old this year! To commemorate this exciting milestone and honor America's most beloved cooking toy, Hasbro, Inc. will once again kick-off the EASY-BAKE "Baker of the Year" contest. The contest, which will search America's kitchens to find the next child "Baker of the Year," will be the highlight of a yearlong celebration commemorating EASY-BAKE. From now until August 31, Hasbro is inviting children 8 to 12 years old to submit their favorite recipe using one or more EASY-BAKE brand mixes to see who can cook up this year's sweet recipe for success.

The selected 2003 "Baker of the Year" will win a $5,000 savings bond and a two-year supply of EASY-BAKE brand bake sets plus, be the namesake of an original dish created by Brooke Vosika, executive chef of Four Seasons Hotel New York. The dish will be unveiled at the event finals and will be an item on the children's menu at Four Seasons Hotel New York for a limited time. Four runners-up each will receive a $1,000 savings bond, and a one-year supply of EASY-BAKE brand bake sets. All finalists will receive a two-night trip to New York City and a package of Hasbro toys and games.

This is the third EASY-BAKE "Baker of the Year" contest. Hasbro launched the first national contest in 1998, in honor of the American icon's 35th birthday, and the second in 2000 to ring in the new millennium.

For the 2003 EASY-BAKE "Baker of the Year" competition, five finalists will be selected by culinary staff at Johnson & Wales University, one of the world's largest culinary educators, and notified to make their appearance in New York City in late October. During the finals, a panel of judges, including renowned toy experts, children's/parenting magazine editors and a world-class chef will be tempted with the delicious treats created in the classic EASY-BAKE Oven.

As a further treat for the anniversary year, a brand new EASY-BAKE REAL MEAL Oven will be introduced this fall, allowing kids to make an entire meal - from appetizer to dessert. And for the first time in EASY-BAKE history, no light bulb is required... just plug 'n play!

"The EASY-BAKE Oven has remained a pop culture icon for forty years because good times and good food never goes out of style," said Ira Hernowitz, senior vice president of marketing for Hasbro. "The 'Baker of the Year' contest is a wonderful way to celebrate this accomplishment. We look forward to seeing and tasting what this year's young chefs will create, because in our book, allowing kids to express their creativity definitely takes the cake!"
