Toy Wishes: Drive the Parents Crazy

NEW YORK -- April 8, 2003 -- There's always that one toy... the toy that Junior can't stand to be without and parents can't stand to be around. Whether it talks, lights up or whistles Dixie, it's the kind of toy that kids covet and parents bemoan.

This summer mom and dad can get a jump on the toys that their kids will be clamoring for - even if they can't understand the attraction. The "Top 10 Toys Kids Love but Drive Parents Crazy" is a list of this season's most edgy - and entertaining - toys and is found only in the Spring issue of Toy Wishes magazine.

The Spring 2003 issue of Toy Wishes Magazine hit newsstands nationwide on April 8th, packed with informative articles for parents and - of course - its signature 'Hot Dozen' list spotlighting the magazine's picks for the hottest toys of the season. The highly anticipated issue also features a super-savvy, one-of-a-kind summer entertainment guide - the ONLY parental guide to children's summer entertainment! The latest edition of the bi-annual toy magazine is the largest Spring issue yet, featuring innovative ideas on how to spend quality time with the kids in your life, plans for the perfect outdoor adventure, the inside scoop on summer camp and reviews on the newest, coolest toys for outdoor play.

In addition to the "Top 10 Toys Kids Love but Drive Parents Crazy" list, the Spring 2003 issue of Toy Wishes also features 'Top 10' toy lists for toddlers, girls, boys, rainy days and travel. Once again, Toy Wishes has taken the guesswork out of toy shopping - and put the fun back in!

Here's what you'll find on the "Top 10 Toys Kids Love but Drive Parents Crazy" list:

  • ELECTRONIC HULK HANDS (Toy Biz/Ages 6 & up/$19.99) With these foam-padded gloves kids can mimic the super-sized superhero in action! As they swing their hands and slam the bad guys the green fists make electronic smashing sounds!
  • FURREAL FRIENDS KITTENS (Hasbro/Ages 6 & up/$19.99) Just like real kitties, these adorable plush pals 'pad' and 'knead' with their paws. Hold the bottle up their mouth and listen to them slurp away. Children love these lifelike friends, but parents may find their realistic nature unnerving.
  • MICROPETS SERIES 2 (TOMY/Ages 5 & up/$7.99-9.99) Get ready for a whole new series of miniature, high-tech pets! With eleven new creatures for kids to adopt and care for who has time for homework?
  • SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS BEACH BLASTIN' BOB (Mattel/Ages 3 &
up/$14.99) Ready for lifeguard duty, Spongebob dons a Speedo and grabs a megaphone. When kids put the megaphone to his mouth Spongebob yells phrases like "Shark" and "Do I look square in these trunks?"
  • STAR WARS YODA'S ELECTRONIC LIGHTSABER (Hasbro/Ages 4 & up/$19.99) Little Jedis can pretend to be Yoda with this unique lightsaber. The role-play toy features a green blade plus lights and sound for fantasy fun. This lightsaber is so close to the real thing, there will be little Jedis running around houses everywhere!
  • SPROING (Hasbro/Ages 8 & up/$3.99) Squeeze, stretch and smush this crazy compound and check out the unpredictable bouncing action! Give it a throw, you'll never know where it'll go!
  • STINK BLASTERS (MEG/Ages 6 & up/$4.99) Introducing 24 smelly new collectible characters! Squeeze any of the 24 figures for their signature stink. Choose from Dog Breath Danny, Sweat Sox Sam, Rotten Egg Reggie and more.
  • THINTRONIX POSTER PHONE (Hasbro/Ages 8 & up/$24.99) Thin enough to hang on the wall and cool enough to accessorize any teen's room, this phone will have kids gabbing in style. Just hang it, plug it in to a phone line and you're ready to dial away! Featuring speed dial and just the right amount of 'cool,' kids will chat for hours on this speakerphone.
  • TONGUE TAPE (JAKKS Pacific/Ages 8 & up/$1.99) Fun flavors in pocket size containers! With flavors like Growlin' Grape, Cherry Pit-Stop, Ooh-Ooh Orange and Howlin' Hot Tongue Tape offers a fun twist to the typical candy fare. Just make sure there's room for dinner.
  • JET SCREAMERS (Wild Planet/Ages 6 & up/$5.99) With its unique pump action these wacky water toys don't need to be refilled, so kids in the pool can spray without stopping! Hold the bottom tip underwater for constant intake and keep the sprayer above water for non-stop saturation!
Consumers who frequent Zany Brainy and FAO Schwarz after April 17th will receive a free issue of Toy Wishes Spring 2003 when they make a purchase, while supplies last.
