Hasbro To Produce S Club 7 Dolls

has_sclub7.jpg - 10785 BytesHasbro, Inc., has been named as a worldwide licensee for S Club 7, the U.K.-based television and recording phenomenon, it was announced recently by 19 Management Ltd. and Hasbro. It has been agreed in principle that Hasbro will manufacture and market a line of fashion dolls representing the group's seven male and female members.

Hasbro's product line will be unveiled at the American International Toy Fair on February 14 in New York City, followed by a special Valentine's Day performance by S Club 7 for trade guests and media.

S Club 7's early successes have been impressive, including the most-watched television series in the U.K., a debut platinum single -Bring It All Back - that sold 750,000 units as it rocketed in at number one, two follow-up singles and their first album that debuted at number two on the U.K. charts. Now, the group's television series, S Club 7 in Miami, can be seen in the U.S. on the Fox Family Channel.

S Club 7 in Miami has already been sold to 40 markets and precipitated chart success everywhere for their first single - number one in markets from New Zealand to Denmark. S Club 7 made their debut in the U.K. in April of 1999 with a 13-episode television series on BBC 1 called Miami 7. In the weeks following the program's debut, it quickly became the most watched children's television program in the U.K.

"We believe S Club 7's unique personalities and enthusiasm will translate into a line of fashion dolls that will be both fun and inspiring for children," said Lorrie Browning, Vice President, Marketing for Licensed Brands, Preschool and Girls. "S Club 7 is extremely talented and has captivated young fans across the U.K. We are thrilled to be associated with S Club 7 as they expand their presence around the world."

"We chose Hasbro because of their proven track record in translating big entertainment properties into successful product lines. We believe that Hasbro's global reach and our combined marketing expertise will help extend S Club 7's popularity as a multifaceted entertainment brand," said Charles Garland of 19 Management.

S Club 7 is an alliance of seven gifted young people, who together combine the worlds of music, dance, acting and fashion with their "We Can Do It" attitude. S Club 7 in Miami tells the story of seven friends - Paul, Hannah, Jon, Bradley, Rachel, Jo and Tina - who are trying to make it in the music business. Their manager offers them the "opportunity of a lifetime" - to perform as the resident band in a posh Miami hotel. When the group arrives, they learn that the hotel is rundown and rather than performing, they are put to work doing a variety of housekeeping chores. Of course, a series of adventures and misadventures follow, but one thing that keeps S Club 7 going is their spirit!

Hasbro's licensing agreement with 19 Management includes worldwide rights in the fashion doll category, with discussions underway on additional product categories.
