Civilization: the Boardgame

(Note: there are two press releases on this page, one announcing the new line of board games and one specifically about Civilization.)

Los Angeles - May 24, 2002 - Eagle Games, a Chicago area publisher of high-end strategy boardgames, announced today from the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) that it will be publishing a new line of boardgames based on popular computer strategy games.

The first title in this line will be Sid Meier's Civilization: The Boardgame, which will be available in early September, 2002. The most recent title in the Civilization series, Sid Meier's Civilization III was developed by Firaxis and published in October of 2001 by Infogrames. Both companies are very excited about the project, and will have input during the development of the boardgame.

Eagle Games is currently in discussions with other major software publishers regarding licensing deals. Announcements of two new titles in the PC conversion line are expected soon.

When asked about future titles, Eagle Games' President, Glenn Drover said, "We are very excited to be working with the best developers and publishers in the PC gaming industry. The catalog of quality products from these publishers has great potential for more games that match up well with our strengths. Our objective is to create products that allow PC gamers to bring their favorite computer games into the real world where they can play with real 3-D pieces and against real 3-D people. The tactile and social experience of our games gives PC game fans another way to enjoy them."

The boardgames will feature hundreds of detailed miniature plastic pieces, gigantic 46" x 36" gameboards featuring the artwork of Paul Niemeyer; and three sets of rules from Basic to Advanced. These elements immerse the player in the excitement, flavor and visual appeal of the PC game, while providing fast, fun gameplay. Assets and reviews of current products may be viewed on the company's website: www.eaglegames.net.

Eagle Games, Inc. is a privately held corporation based in Plainfield, IL. All printed and manufactured components in Eagle Games' products are made in the USA.
