Track the Big 3 at Amazon

SEATTLE-- Nov. 13, 2001

WHAT: With three of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year -- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Monsters, Inc. and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring -- hoping to create audience magic this holiday season, Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN), the No. 1 online retailer, today announced the launch of dedicated online boutiques for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Monsters, Inc. and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The boutiques feature related books, music, toys from Amazon.com partner Toysrus.com and more, as well as dynamic site features that will enable media and fans to track real-time consumer interest in all three films.

REAL-TIME TRACKING: Amazon.com's sales data provides interesting insight into which movie is generating the most consumer interest to date.

* Potter is already a cross-store chart topper: Following the Nov. 4 theatrical premiere of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in London, related products surfaced on Amazon.com's bestseller lists, including:

* Seven of Amazon.com's top 25 bestselling books are Harry Potter releases, including all four book editions and the Harry Potter boxed set (books 1 to 4).

* The paperback version of the first book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, is currently Amazon.com's No. 1 bestselling Harry Potter book, indicating that adults may be engaging in a first-time reader cram session before the film's theatrical release in the U.S.

* The Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone soundtrack is currently ranked No. 5 in Amazon.com's Music store, outselling Michael Jackson's Invincible and the Backstreet Boys' Hits -- Chapter One.

* Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is currently Amazon.com's No. 2 selling computer game and ranks among Amazon.com's top 5 computer game pre order titles ever.

* LEGO Creator: Harry Potter is Amazon.com's No. 2-selling software title and has been among Amazon.com's top 10 software titles since mid October.

* Hobbits dominate video and DVD sign-ups: Movie fans are overwhelmingly voting for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as the most eagerly anticipated of the three films, reflected by Amazon.com e-mail sign ups for future DVD and VHS Delivers notifications. Prior to its theatrical debut on December 19, Lord of the Rings accounts for 72 percent of the total Amazon.com customer sign-ups for DVD/VHS versions of the three films.

* Monsters, Inc. is the viewer favorite: Following its record-breaking box-office opening weekend -- the biggest for any animated film in history - Monsters, Inc. claimed the No. 1 spot on Amazon.com's In Theaters Viewer Favorites list.
