America at Play: I Love This Toy Contest

Share Play Memories and Win Prizes When You Enter the National Toy Hall of Fame's® I Love This Toy Contest

September 2011 - The National Toy Hall of Fame at The Strong invites you to enter the America at Play: I Love This Toy contest launched in conjunction with the announcement of this year's 12 toy finalists: Dollhouse, Dungeons & Dragons, Hot Wheels, Jenga, Pogo Stick, Puppet, R/C Vehicles, Rubik's Cube, Simon, Star Wars Action Figures, Transformers, and Twister.

Share your story about playing with one of the 12 toy finalists and enter to win an Amazon.com gift certificate. Video stories (two minutes or less), audio stories, photos, and text are all eligible. You may wish to reminisce about a playful experience from your childhood or interview friends about how they play. Your submission may include additional images, videos, props, or other original materials you own. Vote for your favorite stories, comment on entries, and share links on Facebook and Twitter. Entries must be uploaded by midnight, October 14, 2011.

A first-prize winner will be selected on the basis of online votes and receive a $250 Amazon.com gift certificate. Three additional Curator's Choice prize winners, determined by a panel of play experts from The Strong, will each receive a $150 Amazon.com gift certificate.

Contest entries will become part of the play archives at The Strong and help in the creation of a new exhibit, America at Play, scheduled to begin installation in 2013. America at Play will include a sweeping overview of four centuries of play in America. Rich in objects from the museum's renowned collections, and complemented by hands-on activities, America at Play will tell the story of the way that play has changed, stayed the same, and affected us alladults and children alike.

The final 2011 toy inductees, chosen by a national selection committee, will be announced at the National Toy Hall of Fame on Thursday, November10, at 10:30 a.m. and a major weekend public celebration will follow at The Strong's National Museum of Play on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13.
