September 2008 Mattel Q&A (Round 2)

September 2008 - Every couple of weeks, Mattel will answer five questions per web site about their various product lines. Here are the answers for the past few questions:

1. When is the Target Exclusive Movie Masters Bat-Pod due?

Answer: Our latest sales forecast shows that the Bat Pod will hit around the middle of Oct.

2. Found the larger Shooting Star in a two pack at Costco with the Mach 5. Were there 6" figures planned for these vehicles and if so, can we see photos of them even if we never get to buy them?

Answer: Sorry to report that we did not plan for any 6" Speed Racer figures. Many characters were available in the 3" figure and vehicle assortment however!

3. Mattycollector.com subscriptions - In light of the ordering difficulties for the '08 SDCC Exclusives, has there been any progress on the idea of line-specific subscriptions on Mattycollector.com? A Subscription for Masters of the Universe Classics has been mentioned as a possibility, but any thoughts on offering subscriptions for Cars, JLU or DCUC?

Answer: This is something we have been looking into, but we do not have details to announce at this time. It is likely we would begin a program like this with the MOTU Classic figure because there is one figure available every month and expand from there. Once we have details to announce we will let fans know.

4. The plastic quality and overall QC for DCUC series 3 seemed lower than the previous series. Will series 4 be back to the same levels of quality we expect from Mattel?

Answer: We noticed this as well and in direct response switch vendors overseas (this is one of the reasons Wave 3 of DCUC shipped a bit late). Hopefully with the new vendor on board you should see improved plastic and paint ops in the future!

5. MM line - Does it cover the 1966 Batman Movie? ...I know the TV series has disputes over rights but if they are marketed as based on the film, could it be done?

Answer: At this time we do not have rights to the 1966 Adam West series or movie.
