NEW YORK, March 26, 2008 -- Major League Baseball Properties and the Major League Baseball Players Association, in conjunction with licensees Topps and Upper Deck, will celebrate the second annual National Baseball Card Day on Saturday, March 29. On this day, exclusive baseball card packs will be given away nationally to kids, collectors and fans as part of this celebration.

National Baseball Card Day

National Baseball Card Day is part of a comprehensive effort to promote baseball card collecting to kids and new collectors. MLBP, MLBPA, and industry leaders Topps and Upper Deck have both individually and collectively worked to develop baseball card products that appeal to fans of all ages.

"For the second time, MLBP, MLBPA, Topps and Upper Deck will give hundreds of thousands of fans the chance to own an exclusive set of baseball cards and engage in one of the most time-honored traditions of the game," said Colin Hagen, Vice President, Licensing, Major League Baseball Properties. "We're also proud to have Toys "R" Us stores nationwide, as well as local hobby shops supporting this ever growing program."

"Baseball card collecting has provided generations of baseball fans with a fun and unique way to connect with their favorite players, and National Baseball Card Day will bring fans of all ages together to celebrate the beginning of another great season," said Evan Kaplan, MLBPA category director for trading cards and collectibles.

The special sets of cards being developed specifically for National Baseball Card Day will feature some of today's brightest stars including Ken Griffey, Jr., Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez, as well as a number of other current standouts and rising stars.
