THis is Hugh Betcha reporting for gottahavemlnow.com, live from the 2005 International Toy Fair. Hot this year? Marvel Legends! Now you may go from site to site, scrounging for tidbits of news or pictures. Well, we've got a scoop for you. While the Toy Biz representative was in the bathroom we snuck into the secret room behind the curtain and discovered ...Astonishing X-men Legends! We were so giddy that we didn't notice the security guard rushing up behind us with a baseball bat. So unfortunately, no pictures, but we managed to grab the stack of promotional pictures on the way out.

As we were running down the street with our loot we ran into Doubledealer and RoboKillah of DoubleKillah Studios, the creators of Astonishing X-men Legends, as they were coming out of a bar. After much pleading and finally a bribe consisting of a carton of Marlboro Lights and what pocket change we had the pair agreed to talk with us. What follows is that exclusive interview.

gottahavemlnow.com: I'm happy that you two agreed to talk to us.

RoboKillah: Us? It's just you and a tape recorder.

GHMLN.com: Well...yes..anyway..how long did it take you to create this assortment?

RK: Well, the Biz gave us a lead time of about 6 months before they wanted the mock-ups, but we sat around and watched Pirates of the Caribbean on endless loop for about 5 of those months.

GHMLN.com: Why so long. Inspiration?

RK: Naw, Depp just rules. You should see DD's Captain Jack impersonation.

Doubledealer: .....

GHMLN.com: Now, Doubledealer, what made you take on the formidable task of working with Toy Biz?

DD: .......

RK: He says he doesn't like you.

GHMLN.com: I'm sorry. Was it something I...

RK: I don't like you either.

GHMLN.com: Wait a sec, are you...

RK: Look, if you're not going to play along then this interview is over.

GHMLN.com: Okay then, one more quick question. Have you seen these? (We show the pair the promo pictures)

DD: ......

RK: These aren't even supposed to be out yet. THe figures aren't finalized, these are just shots of the mock-ups we did, all purtied up. But of course we've seen them. Our graphics guy Magnuz made these to pimp the assortment. We pay him in action figures. Hell, he's lucky to get that. The Biz paid us with half price Upright Citizen's Brigade tickets and beaver pelts.

GHMLN.com: One last thing. What do you think of the current state of the action figure market.

RK: Well, I for one..

DD: I see a great toy apocalypse on the horizon. Our generation who grew up expanding our imagination with little human forms will wither and die, while the new digital generation will replace our plastic joy with blips and whistles on a video screen. Imagination will no longer exist on two planes, but on one. And when that day comes a great sorrow will flood the land. Our landfills will overflow with the small corpses of days gone by, while we sink further and further into the pit of inaction. Figures. In the brain. Repent my brothers! The end is nigh!

GHMLN.com: .....

RK: I hate it when you do that. Good luck selling this assortment now...
