X-Men Ninja

X-Men Ninja - 1997

Dark Nemesis

Ninja Psylocke

Ninja Wolverine

Space Ninja Deathbird

Ninja Sabretooth

This series was a breath of fresh air. First, the series would seem to have retired the old generic X-Men card art (featuring Wolverine) that was present on most of the previous long card releases. Instead, this series used a new generic design that was used exclusively on figures from this series. Subsequent series would adopt the same strategy.

Each figure was a new sculpt except the Ninja Psylock which was the Light-up sculpt with a new head and an added cloak. In fact, several other figures in this series (Wolverine and Sabretooh) featured cloth costume accessories. A very nice touch and a first for the X-Men since the inclusion of a cloth cape way back with Magneto I in 1991.

Dark Nemesis was actually a character from the Age of Apocalypse called Holocaust. Apparently, Toy Biz chose to eschew any controversy over the name and give the figure a less controversial moniker.

Deathbird was a nice addition, given her longstanding history in the X-Men continuity. Continuing Toy Biz's upward trend in scaling, Deathbird does stand out in loose displays of similarly themed figures (Starjammers and Phoenix Saga to name a few) because of her height. A nice figure all the same.

Sabretooth and Wolverine are also pleasant sculpts of the characters and come with some very nifty ninja accessories.

Overall, this was one of the nicest assortments of its time.
