Kylun

Year of release: 1994
Figure Number: 49363
Accessories: Two (2) swords
Action Feature: Twin Striking Swords

Comments: For shelf life, this figure is only rivaled by Sauron. An extremely minor and short-lived character from the Excalibur comics, Colin McKay became the warrior Kylun through some magical hocus pocus and some alternate dimensional trickery. Even the convoluted and contrived nature of Kylun's origin couldn't save this boring figure.

The figure is adequately sculpted and articulated and the action feature is reasonable (and reminiscent of the Kenner Super Powers line in leg squeeze activation). I suppose it could have been worse. One of Kylun's other mutant powers is to imitate any sound he hears. The action feature could have been another whistle (a la Banshee) or worse. In any case, this figure eloquently demostrates the Toy Biz history of making minor characters before focusing on the major players from a certain team or theme. In this case, Kylun was made before any of the more popular characters of Excalibur (save for the original version of Nightcrawler, if you want to count that). But this figure did not sell well at all. One can only speculate if this may have contributed to Toy Biz's apparent reluctance to make a character like Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) or other popular and often requested members of the Excalibur team (past and present).
