Year of release: 1991
Figure Number: 4902
Accessories: Two (2) missiles
Action Feature: Missile Launching Action (also has wing flap mechanism)
Comments: As with all the first series X-Men, the original releases came
with white-bordered Series I trading cards. In most cases the character
on the trading card matched the figure in the package. Some exceptions
to this rule exist. First series cards were also characterized by the full
"peg hole" at the top of the card. All subsequent series had "hanger hooks"
that allow one to remove the figure from the rack without having to remove all
the figures in front of it.
As with several of the first series figures, this version of Archangel
lacked the quality and detail of the subsequent version. The action feature
for this version included wingtip missile that were launched by the finger
(as opposed to the more commonly employed spring loaded missile launcher
found in other figures).
One variation of this figure exists. The original release came with
white wings only. Some guides erroneously list a gray wing version among
the 1991 releases. There is a gray wing version of this figure, but it
was released as a repaint in subsequent years.
Both the gray and white wing versions of this figure were re-issued in
1992-1993 with later series trading cards and hanger hook cards. The
figures themselves are identical to the original release (except in
regard to wing color in the case of the variant).
