eBay Gift Cards Now Offline

eBay Introduces the Perfect Gift for the Holidays -- the New eBay Gift Card

Now Available at Grocery Stores Nationwide

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Oct. 31, 2007 -- Just in time for the holiday gift-giving season, eBay™ Gift Cards will be available to consumers nationwide, according to an announcement today from eBay.com.

The gift cards are available in $25 and $50 denominations and can be purchased at nearly 10,000 grocery stores across the U.S., including Kroger, Safeway, Vons, Dominick's, Fred Meyer, Ralphs and more, through distribution with the Blackhawk Network, the largest provider of third-party prepaid cards.

The gift-card industry has grown steadily over the past few holiday seasons. In 2006 gift-card sales reached nearly $28 billion, up 50 percent from 2005, according to the National Retail Federation.

"This is the first time eBay has offered a gift card offline, and we're excited to extend the brand to consumers in this way at grocery retailers throughout the country," said Gary Briggs, eBay's chief marketing officer. "Giving an eBay Gift Card means giving your friends and loved ones the opportunity to shop on eBay.com and find exactly what they want this holiday season."

"As the popularity of gift cards continues to grow, it was only natural to develop a gift card for one of the most popular sites on the Internet," said Don Kingsborough, president and chief executive officer of Blackhawk Network. "We're thrilled to distribute the eBay Gift Card just in time for the holiday season."

The eBay Gift Card offers unique benefits for both buyers and sellers. With eBay's breadth and depth of products, from toys and electronics to fashion and collectibles, the eBay Gift Card is the perfect gift for anyone. Additionally, the eBay Gift Card benefits sellers on eBay during the crucial holiday period by increasing sales opportunities. An eBay Gift Card is the ideal gift experience, and eBay sellers accepting PayPal stand to benefit from this new customer base.

In order to redeem an eBay Gift Card, consumers can shop on eBay.com for items from sellers who accept PayPal. Once they win an item, buyers click "Pay Now" to proceed to checkout, then enter the 13-digit code from the back of the gift card.

In addition to the new gift card, eBay also offers gift certificates that can be sent instantly via e-mail or printed, in denominations of $5 to $500. For more information on both products, please visit http://giftcard.ebay.com.
