Best Buy: Toys For Teens

Best Buy, U.S. Marine Corps Extend Toy Drive to Underprivileged Teens

'Toys for Teens' Campaign Complements 'Toys for Tots', Collects Gift Donations for 12- to 15-year-olds

MINNEAPOLIS -- October 30, 2006 -- Best Buy is determined to make the holidays brighter for teenagers, launching its sixth annual drive to collect holiday gift donations for underprivileged older children in the United States. Partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps, Best Buy is the exclusive corporate sponsor of "Toys for Teens" and will collect monetary donations at store registers and on BestBuy.com between Oct. 29 and Dec. 31.

Money donated will go to the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program, and will be used for the purchase of gifts for underprivileged children between the ages of 12 and 15. Nearly 800 U.S. Best Buy stores will act as donation sites for "Toys for Teens." Customers may make donations of $1, $5 or $10 at store registers and online. This is the first year Best Buy has collected donations on BestBuy.com.

In addition to customer donations, Best Buy Children's Foundation is making a donation of $250,000 to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

"Each year, millions of teenagers are overlooked during the holiday season, but they deserve the same joy and excitement that a holiday gift brings to younger kids," said retired Major William Grein, vice president of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. "Best Buy's involvement in the Toys for Teens effort helps brighten the holidays for older children."

Best Buy has been a partner with the Toys for Tots Foundation for 10 years. Over the past six years, since Best Buy began sponsoring Toys for Teens, the retailer and its customers have donated more than $2 million.

"Our customers continue to respond generously to this program. Best Buy is proud to be able to work with the U.S. Marine Corps, our customers, and our communities to extend the joy of the holidays to older children in need," said Paula Prahl, vice president, public affairs, Best Buy.

This year Best Buy has made it even easier for customers to support Toys for Teens by partnering with Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment. For each Nickelodeon DVD purchased, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Toys for Tots Foundation.
