Captain Action Honored

October 2006 - Captain Action, the Original Super Hero Action Figure, was honored amongst his peers on October 14th at the Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

The iconic toy of the 60's is beloved by a legion of fans, ranging from nostalgic "40-somethings" to comic fans and character collectors. Captain Action was the brainchild of marketing genius Stan Weston, also responsible for the original GI Joe in 1964. Marketed by the Ideal Toy Company from 1966 to 1968, Captain Action could become 13 favorite super heroes of the day by changing into their super hero uniforms, most notably, Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. The line was picked up in the late 1990's by Playing Mantis, a collectible toy company who reissued some of the other notable heroes of the original line being the Lone Ranger, the Phantom and the Green Hornet. The passion for the line is undiminished, as it's high end collectible status continues to draw collectors with original Captain Action toys routinely fetching up to $5,000 on Ebay!

Captain Action was inducted into the museum's Hall of Fame, along with Kenner's Super Power line from the 1980s. Kevin Stark, Curator of the museum was quoted as follows:

"A committee of toy industry professionals, toy collecting fans, and board members from the museum considered a list of several candidates for this year's induction. Among them, the original Star Wars Line, the original He-man line, and Transformers. We are proud that Captain Action was added to the Hall of Fame that already includes the original 12 inch GI Joes and the first Spawn line from Todd McFarlane. Captain Action epitomizes what the Hall of Fame is all about. It's a toy line that captured the imagination of kids and collectors alike. With a well designed concept, the Captain Action line kept kids in the late 60s entertained for hours, and it is a sought after collectible today."
