Trivial Pursuit Totally 80s Edition

Remember More Than You Know with Hasbro's Trivial Pursuit Totally 80s Edition

September 29, 2006 -- EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Pull out your hot pink leg warmers and denim jackets, slap on those dangerous (but oh-so-cool) slap bracelets and show off your best moonwalk as you rock to some awesome tunes on your vintage portable tape player with over-sized headphones. In other words, get ready for a gnarly trip down memory lane with an 80s version of the gold standard in trivia games.

Hasbro, Inc.'s new TRIVIAL PURSUIT: TOTALLY 80s Edition will jog the memories of Americans who experienced (and, in some cases, endured) the decade of yuppies, break dancing, and mullets with questions in six categories: Movies, Television, Music, Sports & Leisure, Headlines and 'Wild Card.' The game contains more than 2,000 questions such as:

  • Who squealed on She Bop that she "can't stop messing with the danger zone?"
  • What was the only college football team to claim 3 Division 1-A championships in the 80s?
  • What Vice Presidential candidate reminded his opponent: "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy?"
  • What landmark saw 6 million fans show up at birthday events on the weekend it turned 100?

The game's four pawns that move around the board also capture the pop culture flavor of the 80s as they include an orange Care Bear, an 80s-styled PC computer, a CD, and a Trapper Keeper -- the coolest file organizer ever to grace a high school locker.

"The '80s were a dynamic decade, and Americans remember a lot more about that era than they think they know," said Tim Eio, Senior Marketing Manager at Hasbro for Adult games. "The game's questions are designed to trigger players' memories of the '80s, resulting in an evening of laughter and personal stories that start with phrases such as 'What were we thinking when...' and 'I can remember when I...'"

An icon of the 80s itself, Trivial Pursuit quickly became the No. 1 selling trivia game when it launched in 1982. More than 70 million games have been sold worldwide in the last 24 years. The new TRIVIAL PURSUIT: TOTALLY 80s Edition is on shelf now at major retailers and has a suggested retail price of $34.99.

A TV commercial directed by Cyndi Lauper and featuring 11 stars of the '80s is running nationwide. For curious minds, Cyndi Lauper is the answer to the first question listed above. The other answers are (in order): University of Miami, Lloyd Bentsen, and the Statue of Liberty.

Hasbro is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its PLAYSKOOL, TONKA, MILTON BRADLEY, PARKER BROTHERS, TIGER, and WIZARDS OF THE COAST brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.
