Monopoly: Here & Now Edition Tokens

New MONOPOLY®: Here & Now™ Edition Tokens Remodeled to Reflect "Here & Now" Icons

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Sept. 12, 2006 -- MONOPOLY tokens (aka movers) have come a long way since game designer Charles Darrow initially used buttons and pennies to move around the board. During the past 71 years, players have plotted their course along America's most popular game using die-cast terriers, wheelbarrows, race cars, and even a bag of money.

This September, MONOPOLY fans playing the new MONOPOLY: Here & Now Edition will have the chance to speed past "GO" in a trendy Toyota Prius, race directly to "JAIL" in a heritage New Balance shoe, and jet off to the game board's nearest airport (which replaces the railroads) riding in a supersonic airplane.

The updated tokens will include:

-- Toyota Prius - Named 2004 "Car of the Year" by Motor Trend Magazine, the Toyota Prius is the best-selling hybrid and most fuel-efficient mid-sized car in America combining a gas engine and an emissions-free electric motor that achieves 650 miles between fill-ups. Gas mileage like that is even greater than landing on "FREE PARKING"!

-- New Balance Shoe - MONOPOLY: Here & Now is giving the old shoe the boot and allowing players to take strides around the board with a high performance athletic shoe by New Balance. Known for their specialized footwear, as well as their strong heritage in running, New Balance continues to focus on manufacturing innovative shoes for athletes of all ages and abilities and is the only athletic brand currently producing shoes in the U.S.A.

-- McDonald's® French Fries - For more than 50 years, Americans have enjoyed McDonald's World Famous Fries®. With their great taste and popularity as America's favorite, McDonald's French Fries is a perfect icon for a MONOPOLY token.

-- Labradoodle - The Scottish Terrier, once a popular American pet and coveted MONOPOLY token, has been replaced by a new breed that is a mix between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, brilliantly called a Labradoodle. Known for their extreme cleverness and curly coat, these dogs have become a "must have" addition to families -- and MONOPOLY game players, too!

-- Motorola RAZR Mobile Handset - Motorola's RAZR™ V3 mobile handset has been a sought-after item for more than 50 million customers worldwide. Noted by industry experts as a game-changing feat of design and engineering, the Motorola RAZR measures just 13.9mm thin. The mobile handset's radical and revolutionary design transformed consumers' expectations for how a mobile handset should look and feel. Players should watch out as this token is so stealth that it may try to sneak past an opponent's property without paying rent!

-- Laptop Computer - Laptops allow the Millennial generation the chance to conduct business, talk long distance, and surf the Web anytime, anywhere. Because computers play such an important role in modern life, one of the two utilities on the game board has even been changed to "Internet Service."

"These updated tokens are extremely relevant in the 21st century and provide an additional layer of fun and authenticity for players as they enjoy our new contemporary edition," said Matt Collins, Vice President of Marketing at Hasbro Games.

The MONOPOLY: Here & Now Edition game board has been completely updated based on more than 3 million votes from the American public. The new edition will resemble present-day America as the properties now include landmarks from 22 great destination cities and the property spaces have been re-appraised to include modern-day property values. In addition to the updated tokens and properties, the game's money will be in higher denominations and the Chance and Community Chest cards will include scenarios relevant to today.

Since 1935, more than 250 million copies of MONOPOLY have been sold in 80 countries and 26 languages. More than 200 different editions of the game have been published, but the most popular continues to be the classic "Number Nine." Affectionately known by its original product number, "Number Nine" is based on the streets of Atlantic City and is nearly identical to Charles Darrow's original submission to Parker Brothers. The MONOPOLY name and logo, the distinctive design of the game board, the four corner squares, the MR. MONOPOLY name and the character, as well as each of the distinctive elements of the board and playing pieces are trademarks of Hasbro for its property trading game and game equipment.
