July 21: Comic-Con RTM Meeting & Dinner

July 2006 - Ever wanted to meet other toy collectors face to face? Ever wanted to meet a familiar name from the Raving Toy Maniac ToyBuzz forum in person? Ever wanted a place to ask someone which booths have the best free swag at Comic-Con? Now's your chance!
At the 2006 San Diego Comic-Con International convention, RTM is holding a "meet-and-greet" in the fangroup meeting room on Friday, July 21st.
The official description for the meeting is:
4:30-6:00 Raving Toy Maniac Group Meeting - The Raving Toy Maniac website (www.toymania.com) covers toys, action figures, and all related collectibles. This group is a meet-and-greet for members of the online forum as well as all collectors interested in chatting about collecting and the convention. Swap tips from the Comic-Con Exhibit Hall about the best deals you've found and share ways to enjoy your hobby. Room 24A
The meeting has no set agenda, it is just a room we have reserved so that toy collectors have a space to meet one another and compare notes about the convention.
At 6:00, as we turn the fangroup meeting room over to the Simpsons Collectors Group Meeting (that meeting runs until 7:30), a group will be heading out to dinner. As of this writing (July 12th), we are planning to eat at Buco Di Beppo, which is a family-style Italian restaurant. (You can view their menu online, and yes, they do make pizza without gross things on it.) If you would like to come with us to dinner, please send an email to George (you may know him as AnimatedBat from the forum) at [email protected] so we can get a rough headcount for dinner in order to make reservations.
To cover the main points of possible confusion: - You don't have to stay for the whole meeting. We are expecting that people will come and go, because we do realize that there are other seminars and panels happening at the same time.
- If you come for the meeting, you don't have to come to dinner. We aren't your Aunt Irene and you aren't stuck with us for the whole night.
- If you can't make the meeting, you are still welcome to join us for dinner. Although if you'd like to come to dinner, please let George know so that no one gets stuck at a "kiddie table" away from the main grouping.
- Rob and Bobbi have still not won the lottery, so everyone will have to pay for their own dinner. Except for Bobbi, as Rob will be paying for hers. Rob always pays for hers... Last year we discovered that most of the dishes were large enough to share, which made the cost per person quite reasonable. (A bit more than fast food, probably less than Hooter's, much much less than the fancy places where they make you wear a tie.)
