Game Systems, MP3 Players, American Girl Items and Star Wars Action Figures Among Early Holiday Sales Leaders on eBay
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Nov. 18, 2005 -- With millions of buyers and sellers, the eBay marketplace is a real-time barometer of what's really happening in popular culture and what products are the real "must-haves" this season. As an early glimpse into this year's holiday shopping trends, the eBay marketplace is showing that the Xbox 360, Apple iPod Nanos, Star Wars action figures, American Girl items and decorative collectibles are among the hot sales leaders.
eBay Marketplace Research, the new service that offers sellers and buyers visibility into important listing, bidding and pricing trends in the eBay marketplace, was used to determine these actual sales data and search results.
Game On!
Xbox 360, the new game system available next week, has been a hot pre-order product on eBay with nearly 8,200 items selling over the last 30 days at an average sold price (ASP) of $525. Sony Playstation Portable (PSP), the top search term on eBay just ahead of Xbox 360, has sold at a rate of 14 per hour over the past week versus 22 Xbox 360 systems an hour over the same period.

Play that Funky Music
iPod, iPod Nano and iPod Mini rank No. 3, 4 and 6, respectively, in searches on eBay, and this is translating into high sales numbers. Over 3,400 of the recently-released iPod Nanos have sold -- the black model selling more than 2-to-1 over the white. Of the iPod Minis, blue, silver and pink models are the most popular among eBay shoppers.

It Takes a (Snow) Village
As eBay buyers express their personal holiday style in the home, snow villages and Swarovski ornaments have become hot selling on eBay. Over 2,500 snow villages sold over the past week, a 15 percent increase over the previous seven days, while nearly 4,000 Swarovski ornaments sold over the last 30 days.
