Action-HQ Reviews Monsters 3

MONSTER III: 6 FACES OF MADNESS - REVIEW:
Action-HQ.com
J Wong

June 2004 - Collectors will definitely be awe-strucked by the new highly anticipated release of Monsters III: 6 Faces of Madness by McFarlane Toys! As with the previous Twisted Land of OZ, you will be amazed by the re- imagination of these infamous people of the past.

This line focuses on the historical look of "some of the human race's most notorious blood letters and miscreants." They include Vlad the Impaler, Jack the Ripper, Billy the Kid, Rasputin, Attila the Hun and Elizabeth Bathory. Each are highly sculpted painstakingly painted in their most gruesome and ghastly pose. All comes with tons of accessories & base to rearrange and display.

Here are some first impressions. For out of package pictures, we suggest you go to the source: Spawn.com.

Vlad the Impaler 1431-1476 Romania
AKA Dracula before he became a vampire. The face says it all. The burning rage is more than perfect! Whether he looks like that or not, who cares! One of the best action pose in the whole line. He has excellent detail especially in his breast plate and full arm chain linked gauntlet. Lots of blood splatter, a great long impaler and a bloody hand coming out of a dungeon in the ground. A great touch! The only thing I can fault is that there is a very noticeable joint on his arm which detracts. One has to wonder why McFarlane put that there considering that if you twist his arm any other way, it would look disjointed; and it is not like he can we posed in any other way? Comes also with a big blood splattered dragon broadsword.

Jack the Ripper 1888 London
Oh Jack! This interpretation of Jack is really scary! Unlike most Hollywood movies, he is not represented as a normal debonair magician-like character with a pea-coat! You have here the big gruesome manic giant. Wouldn't want to meet him in an alley. Comes with attachable bolo hat, a number of cutting tools of the trade, a blood-dripping doctors bag and alley way base. Except the for representation, he seems to be the less interesting toy in the lot due to the lack of accessories and such. Would have been really great if his doctors bag could open and you can find out what's in the bag.

Billy the Kid 1859-1881 New Mexico
Billy got a gun and lots of them! And lots of cutting instruments too. Though he is only suppose to be 22 year old at the height of his career, he sure looks older here. But that does not matter as he looks awesome with all the details from boot to hat. In particular his across- the- chest bullet belts. Anyway, if you like detail, this is the one figure to get. And don't forget the secret hidden in the coffin; you'll definitely be surprise there. Definitely one of better figures in the line for sure!

Rasputin 1869-1916 Russia
The "Mad Monk" is another favorite. Beside the excellent sculpt and the mad facial expression, Rasputin comes with tons of tiny accessories in his medieval lab. Lots of little colored jars and test tubes to play with. However unfortunately, most all of them are glued on or attached. However, the best part of this figure is that he is hung on a pole with hooks on his back! You can swing him around and create a more dynamic menacing look. Comes with a wooden spike base; what a crazy nut. Beware not to bring him into the office or your co-workers might think you are crazy. All in all, this is one of the best figures in the line.

Attila the Hun 406-453 Roman Empire
After looking at the other figures, Attila just don't look that mean, nor psycho for that matter but nevertheless a really great figure. Comes with 3 fiendish weapons and one of the best, if not the best base in the whole line! He is standing on top of over 30 bloody decapitated heads! All intricacy detailed the McFarlane way. Now then, why is he not in a blood-rage vs a calculating stare? Anyway, we are still dazzled and cannot wait on the prospects from the upcoming Conan series later this year [also by McFarlane].

Elizabeth Bathory 1560-1640 Hungary
The only lady in the group of miscreants and what a lady she is bathing in the blood of 600 virgins, whoopee! This is the only figure which you can barely see a figure as she is submerged in a highly detail brassy enameled bath tube full of red ooze. Yet you can get just enough of her delicate and voluptuous body to want her. Definitely another favorite one of ours. Comes with wine glass, knife and a tall triple candlelabra with 3 female decapitated heads. This is another one that you shouldn't bring to the office or show your mom! This one will definitely sell out fast!

Thanks!
