DST Acquires Buffy & Angel License

March 2004 - In February, Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles (DST) announced its acquisition of the action figure and high-end collectible (busts and statues) license to Joss Whedon's cult-favorite TV series, Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Already assisting sculptor Clayburn Moore's Moore Action Collectibles (MAC) in the manufacture, marketing, and distribution of action figures based on these popular properties, DST will now handle all aspects of the toys' production, as well as manage the MAC Collector's Society, which will go live in the coming weeks. With Moore closely overseeing the design and sculpting of DST's all-new Buffyverse line of toys and collectibles, the company is readying figures based on Tara and Anya - as well as characters previously announced for MAC's second series of Angel figures (including an all-new version of Spike) - in the near future.

In addition to its action figure releases, DST is also producing a number of high-quality resin pieces - including busts and statuettes - that will bring Angel's and Buffy the Vampire Slayer's most popular characters to vivid life, as well as capture key moments from the fan-favorite shows.

"The Willow figures that we've already solicited in Previews have found an enormous amount of interest from retailers and their customers, which doesn't surprise us in the least," said Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles Marketing and Promotions Coordinator Scott Braden. "Fox's Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer continue to enjoy great success with their best-selling DVD releases. And, with both series living on in syndication and, in Angel's case, prospective TV movies, these highly collectible figures offer retailers highly lucrative products that are certain to scare up sales."

"I'm working in close association with DST on all future Buffy the Vampire Slayer collectibles, and I couldn't be happier," said Moore. "My partnership with DST gives me the ability to continue producing the high-quality releases that collectors have come to expect. We have big plans on the horizon that are sure to thrill Buffy fans and toy collectors everywhere."

DST's first Buffy releases include: the May-shipping Buffy the Vampire Slayer Busts (D'Hoffryn, Giles as Fyarl Demon, Kulak, and the Judge, as well as the June-shipping Angel: Faith Statuette. And for the legions of Tara and Anya fans, DST promises retailers and their customers all-new action figure releases based on these popular heroines this summer!
