JOE-LANTA 2004: March 27 & 28

JOE-LANTA convention 2004

"Lights! Camera! G.I.JOE!"

JOE-LANTA is a regional GIJOE/ Action Figure show that is held annually in Atlanta, Georgia. In each of its first three years, JOE-LANTA drew over 500 attendees to "HOT-LANTA". Collectors come from around the Southeast region and from across the United States to enjoy two days of action figure fun. The 2004 show, planned for March 27th and 28th, will be the fourth JOE-LANTA Show and will be the largest yet.

JOE-LANTA 2004 will feature over 90 tables of GIJOE and Action Figure collectibles. There are also events planned for attendees on March 27th, the Saturday evening before the show. These events will include guest speakers, video presentations, an intimate pre-show sales event with a select group of dealers AND something new for 2004!

In March of 2004, JOE-LANTA will again feature its awesome Custom Figure and Diorama contests. The quality and number of entries was incredible in 2003. For 2004, there will be a NEW competition at JOE-LANTA that will be open to non-attendees as well as those attending JOE-LANTA. Competing film makers are being asked to produce short films using film or video of 15 minutes or less in length, using 1/6th scale action figures. Those films that meet the Festival criteria will be part of the JOE-LANTA 2004 Film Festival. These works will be viewed by 100 attendees at the Saturday Night JOE-LANTA Pre-show. The films will be judged and prizes will be awarded. Film makers need not attend JOE-LANTA to enter a film in the competition.

The show promoters (members of the Hasbro Sponsored Official GIJOE Collectors' Club which hosts the National GIJOE Convention annually) are Buddy Finethy and Lanny Lathem of JOE-LANTA Productions.

"Buddy and I wanted to ad a new dimension to JOE-LANTA," says Lanny, "and to our knowledge their is no other film competition based on 1/6th scale action figures. We are asking that entries in the Film Festival maintain a PG rating since we strive for a family atmosphere at JOE-LANTA."

Indeed the very number of kids at the show reveals that families are a big part of JOE-LANTA. Special door prize drawings for children have brought many a smile to young JOE-LANTA goers in years past and 2004 promises more of the same.
