Fisher-Price: Dora the Explorer

(NEW YORK, NY) - Fisher-Price, the world's largest preschool toy company, and Nickelodeon, the number one entertainment brand for kids, team up to manufacture a new line of toys based on one of Nickelodeon's newest stars: Dora the Explorer. Since its debut in August 2000, Dora the Explorer has emerged as the number one show on all commercial TV among kids ages 2 to 5.

Under the terms of the agreement, which becomes effective in 2002, Fisher-Price will expand its already extensive portfolio of the most popular preschool brands to manufacture a line of plush and preschool toys for the Dora the Explorer license. The new collection will be unveiled at Toy Fair 2002, with the first toys hitting retail shelves in September.

The agreement is the second between the two companies. Fisher-Price has been the master toy licensee for Nickelodeons' Blue's Clues license since 1998, manufacturing a complete line of products including feature plush, preschool toys and electronic learning aids.

In every episode, Dora and Boots invite the audience to participate in an exciting adventure, where each step of their journey consists of a problem or puzzle in which Dora and the audience must think their way through in order to solve the next problem. Dora also is bilingual and uses her knowledge of English and Spanish to communicate with her friends, overcome obstacles and reach her goals. In each episode, Dora teaches a Spanish word or phrase to the viewers and then asks them to use it to solve a problem and forge ahead. Ultimately, Dora and her best friend, Boots, triumph, and the story always ends with a "We Did It!" anthem.

Nickelodeon, now in its 22 year, has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the U.S. and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, magazines, books and feature films. Nickelodeon's television network is seen in more that 80 million households, and has been the number one rated cable network for five consecutive years. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of Viacom International Inc.

Fisher-Price, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mattel, Inc located in East Aurora, New York, is the leading brand of infant and preschool toys in the world and also offers an extensive line of juvenile products that help families get the best possible start in life. Celebrating over 70 years of excellence in children's products, some of the Company's best known "classic" brands include Little People, Power Wheels and View-Master .
