RIO Merchandising Program Launches at Toys"R"Us®
Exclusive Toy Line, Along With Video Game, Publishing and More Land at Toys"R"Us Stores Nationwide and Toysrus.com -- RIO's Ultimate Retail Destination -- in Advance of the 3-D Animated Comedy Adventure Coming to Theatres
CENTURY CITY, CA -- 03/24/11 -- Starting in April, customers visiting Toys"R"Us stores across the country will have the chance to explore the world of RIO -- the upcoming 3-D animated comedy adventure from Twentieth Century Fox and the makers of the ICE AGE franchise -- with the launch of an exclusive RIO merchandising program. Together with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, Toys"R"Us stores and Toysrus.com/RIO will offer consumers a first look at one of the most anticipated family films of the year, with dozens of movie-inspired products, including an exclusive toy line, video games and books. Transforming into the ultimate retail destination for RIO, Toys"R"Us customers can find a selection of exclusive RIO extras and sneak peeks of the movie before it lands in theaters April 15.
Toys"R"Us will launch the program with a specially designed RIO feature area that translates the wonderfully comedic and heartfelt characters, vibrant color, excitement and infectious energy from the film into a top-notch product showcase. The RIO merchandising assortment will include a toy line from ToyQuest, available exclusively at Toys"R"Us stores and Toysrus.com/RIO. Prominently displayed in the feature area, the toy line offers an affordable and fun selection of poseable 3.75-inch mini figures in two packs, 8-inch basic plush pals, 10-inch animated talking plush, 9-inch feature plush and beanies. All key characters in the film are represented in the line and will allow fans of the movie to relive RIO's rich storyline at home. Signature items include a 9-inch interactive plush version of the lead characters Blu and Jewel chained together and a 7-inch walking and talking plush Luiz bulldog, a true scene stealing character in the film.

To help celebrate the RIO feature area in Toys"R"Us stores, as well as the launch of the RIO video game from THQ Inc. customers who purchase the game for the Xbox and Wii when it is released on April 12, will receive a unique DVD featuring never-before-seen sneak peeks of the film including the movie's amazing opening scene and an eye-popping epic action sequence, while supplies last. Additionally, gamers who purchase the RIO video game for the PlayStation 3 will receive a free Blu-ray version of this special content, which includes two theatrical trailers and original featurettes -- "Soaring With Blue Sky" and "Carlos Saldanha's Vision" -- that cannot be seen in theatres.
THQ's RIO is a colorful, music-filled and multi-platform, party-style video game, which features 40 mini-games, making it the perfect selection for a party or a night of family fun. With characters and settings based on the movie, RIO brings multi-player Carnival excitement to game consoles.
As the online home of RIO merchandise, Toysrus.com/RIO will launch a RIO micro-site featuring movie trailers and exclusive downloadable coloring pages from the Modern Publishing coloring books.
Toys"R"Us is also the home for a multi-format publishing program that encompasses all the fun and adventure of the film, allowing readers of all ages to relive and experience RIO at home. At Toys"R"Us and Toysrus.com/RIO, families will find storybooks from HarperCollins, color and activity books from Modern Publishing, and a Look-and-Find book from Publications International.

From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series comes RIO, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in small town, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he's the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu's female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu escapes. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.
Mixing incredible songs and inspiring dance numbers into a funny adventure, RIO is sure to excite as much as entertain.
RIO will hit theaters April 15, 2011 and boasts an amazing voice cast including the talents of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jemaine Clement, Leslie Mann, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, will.i.am, Jake T. Austin, Rodrigo Santoro and Jamie Foxx.
