OILERS UNVEIL MCFARLANE-DESIGNED THIRD JERSEY
LIMITED NUMBERS ON SALE; WIN ONE FROM SPAWN.COM

Spawn.com is proud to present the Edmonton Oilers third jersey, designed by Spawn creator (and part owner of the Oilers) Todd McFarlane in collaboration with (Edmonton-born) Brent Ashe of Todd McFarlane Productions.

Almost three years in the making, the new Oilers jersey represents a proud step into the NHL third-jersey program and is a singular vision of both the team's past and future.

Though the new logo is bold, dynamic and industrially modern, it's rooted in respect for the traditions of hockey's past. The new design's key element - the oil drop - is taken from the original Oilers logo. The five rivets encircling the oil drop represent the five Stanley Cups the team has won since its 1979 National Hockey League debut. The 10 gear teeth (five each on both the inner and outer rings) represent each of the Oilers' 10 team captains, who include such legends as Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.

The Oilers began an extensive advertising campaign several weeks ago, culminating in a press conference with Todd McFarlane, the Oilers' general manager, president and team captain on Friday, Oct. 26 in Edmonton to reveal the new jersey.

The club will debut the new third jersey in a nationally televised game on "Hockey Night in Canada" vs. the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. Mountain Time.

For more information about the jersey, including a look at the design and how to buy (and win) the jersey and other 3rd Jersey-emblazoned memorabilia, go to http://www.spawn.com/news/news011026a.html.

TODD CREATES CHARACTERS FOR SHREK XBOX
NEW GAME SET FOR NOV. 15 RELEASE

Todd McFarlane collaborated with TDK Mediactive and developer Digital Illusions to create exclusive new characters for the Shrek for Xbox game, including:

  • The dastardly Dungeon Keeper
  • Humpty Dumpty as a half-cracked egg
  • The cold, calculating Ice Cream Queen's ice cream

"It was really cool to work with TDK on creating these characters for the game," Todd said. "Plus, I like the idea of the Xbox and its cutting-edge technology."

QUOTABLES BY TODD McFARLANE

Talking to Sport Illustrated's Albert Chen about Barry Bonds hitting 73 home runs. "I'm getting a lot of ribbing, but if having my balls (McGwire and Sosa home run balls that is) neutered brings joy to this country now, then I'm ready to do my patriotic duty."
