NYCC Adds Joe Simon & Joe Kubert

COMIC LEGENDS JOE SIMON AND JOE KUBERT ARE GUESTS OF HONOR AT NEW YORK COMIC CON

Adam and Andy Kubert to Appear as Featured Guests; Sean Michael Wilson Added to Manga Programming

Norwalk, CT, February 22, 2008: Two more Guests of Honor and a parade of new featured guests have been added to the line up at New York Comic Con. Just a couple days after announcing the presence of Grant Morrison as a Guest of Honor at NYCC, con officials have confirmed that legendary creators Joe Simon and Joe Kubert will also be making Guest of Honor appearances at the convention which occurs April 18 - 20 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

Mr. Kubert will be joined by his sons, Adam and Andy Kubert, who will be Featured Guests and who will take part in a panel devoted to the family business, the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. Special programming has been developed around the Kuberts' talents, including a panel discussion and the first-ever Artists' Sketch Class - where a Kubert School instructor will provide guidance to fans as they sketch a live model. In addition, all three Kuberts have designed an exclusive, original poster promoting New York Comic Con which features three DC Comics characters. The Kuberts have never collaborated on a project like this before, and so con officials are expecting that the poster, which will be distributed to retail outlets throughout New York City and beyond, will become a true collectible. NYCC is pleased that it has 3 Kuberts drawing a poster for the 3rd NYCC!

"For anyone who has been reading my blog, Medium-At-Large, you'll be aware that I've been saying that we are going to be making some big announcements in the final two or three months leading into the show," comments Lance Fensterman, NYCC Show Manager. "Well, the past few weeks have certainly been proof of that, and this is still just the beginning! But let's take these announcements one at a time - Joe Simon and Joe Kubert, both at the show? This is a dream come true, they are great and true legends and we are profoundly honored to have them at NYCC. It is appearances like these that make our show so attractive and so valuable to the fans and we are incredibly grateful to these personalities for making this commitment."

Joe Simon, who partnered with Jack Kirby to co-create Captain America, one of comics' most enduring superheroes, is an American comic book writer, artist, editor, and publisher. Mr. Kirby, who was born in 1913, created or co-created many important characters in the 1930s-1940s Golden Age of Comic Books and he served as the first editor of Timely Comics, the company that would evolve into Marvel Comics. With his partner Jack Kirby, Mr. Simon also worked extensively on such features at DC Comics as the 1940s Sandman and Sandy the Golden Boy, and co-created the Newsboy Legion, the Boy Commandos, and Manhunter. Simon & Kirby creations for other houses include Fighting American and The Fly. In the late 1940s, he and Kirby created the field of romance comics, and were among the earliest pioneers of horror comics.

Joe Kubert, also a New York artist, is noted for founding the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in 1976 with his wife, Muriel, which is located in Dover, New Jersey. Best known for his work on the DC Comics features Sgt. Rock and Hawkman, Kubert's career spans many years and accomplishments, including the creations of the comic books Tor, Son of Sindad, and Viking Prince, and (with writer Robin Moore), the comic strip Tales of the Green Beret. Kubert was born in Poland but moved to New York when he was an infant and grew up in Brooklyn. The Joe Kubert School is a result of his own recognition that there was a need for a formal process by which aspiring artists might attain a position in the professions of Cartoon-Graphics and Illustration. Mr. Kubert was inducted into the Harvey Awards' Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997, and Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998.

In still more news, convention programmers also want to call attention to the additional names they've added to their Featured Guest list. Joining Adam and Andy Kubert on the ever-growing list are Sean Michael Wilson, Arthur Suydam, Carmine Infantino, CB Cebulski, Frank Brunner, Geoff Johns, JG Jones, Joe Staton, Ramona Fradon and Sherrilyn Kenyon.
