INTERVIEW WITH DA TEAM BRONX [Translated]

John Wong [Action-HQ.com] > Tim, Can you tell us something about yourself or your company?

Tim Tsui [Da Team Bronx] > My name is Tim Tsui and I have been working as a Graphics and Multimedia Producer for about 7 years. In early 2002, I started developing a strong interest creating action figures. My debut work was called "Da Team Bronx". The name, to me, comes from my ever growing appreciation for Hip-Hop music and street culture. The "Bronx" in the name, is from the origin of Hip-Hop culture in the Northern part of New York.

John Wong [Action-HQ.com] > How did you get started in making designer toys?

Tim Tsui [Da Team Bronx] > I guess G.I. Joe was my biggest influence as a child. I collected and always used play with G.I. Joe figures. As you know GI Joe was mostly focused on military themes. When I grew up and became more interested in Hip-Hop and street fashion and I wondered why no one has created collectibles for this market. So later on, I decided to start making my own figures with in this street culture style.

John Wong [Action-HQ.com] > The idea of using the spray can as packaging was quite ingenious. I was wondering what inspired you in creating these figures considering the art of (or crime of) graffiti is not very popular in Hong Kong?

Tim Tsui [Da Team Bronx] > As I mentioned, I like Hip-Hop and graffiti is one of the element which started in the Bronx. So I took it as the scene for my figures. Graffiti is like an international language, every one can appreciate and understand it without difficulty and no matter if it is popular in HK or not; it is just a way showcase my figures.

John Wong [Action-HQ.com] > Do you do graffiti?

Tim Tsui [Da Team Bronx] > I like graffiti and do some occasionally. I usually do some small ones inside my house.

John Wong [Action-HQ.com] > Tell me something interesting regarding the production of your figures?

Tim Tsui [Da Team Bronx] > The interesting things is that one needs to be in a set and strict deadline without any delays or you it can really mess up everything. And as many people [in the business know] there are always delays.

John Wong [Action-HQ.com] > So what is the inside scoop on your next product or line of products?

Tim Tsui [Da Team Bronx] > My next series of products will be coming out in August and is also going to be graffiti related. You will be surprised and amazed for what I have in store for you guys.
