Magneto II

magneto2BB.jpg Year of release: 1992/1994; 1995 (X-Men Classics)
Figure Number: 4947 (43131 X-Men Classics)
Accessories: Removable cape & laser-type pistol
Action Feature: Super Sparking Action (Sparking Chest)

Comments: This was the first figure other than Wolverine to be remade in this line. Most collectors agree that this second version of Earth's Most Powerful Evil Mutant was vastly superior to the original magnetic version. Having a more detailed and muscled body, this version did not have the removable helmet of its predecessor. In addition, the cape had become firm plastic (as opposed to the cloth of the original).

This figure was released as 10" figure as well. In addition, the 5" version was released two additional times subsequent to the original release. The first re-release came in 1994 to capitalize on the popularity of the X-Men animated television show on Fox television. This second version was distinguishable from the first by examining the paint details on the gloves. The original version had solid purple gloves. All subsequent releases had alternating purple and red striping on the gloves.

Magneto II was also released as part of the X-Men Classics line in 1995. This figure was identical to the re-release (i.e., all purple gloves) and came with extra accessories such as Stryfe's warhammer and Ahab's harpoons. Each of the classics figures came packaged with a special trading card representing that figure. These cards were not available outside these packages, making it a first for Toy Biz.

An Age of Apocalypse version of Magneto has been released as well.
