With a large, dedicated fan base, including more than 4.7 million Facebook fans and 3.1 million Twitter followers, tickets for the group's debut tour in the U.K. sold out within minutes prompting expansion into tour dates in North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

  • Net revenues of $648.9 million for the first quarter 2012 versus $672.0 million for the first quarter 2011; foreign exchange had a negative $8.5 million impact on first quarter 2012 revenues;
  • Net loss of $2.6 million, or ($0.02) per diluted share, compared to net earnings of $17.2 million, or $0.12 per diluted share in 2011; Excluding $11.1 million, or $0.06 per diluted share, of severance costs, first quarter 2012 net earnings were $5.1 million, or $0.04 per diluted share;
  • International segment revenues up 14% to $289.7 million, reflecting growth in all major geographic regions; International revenues up 17% absent negative $8.2 million impact of foreign exchange;
  • Boys product category revenues up 4% and Preschool revenues up 2%;
  • Positive point-of-sale trends in the U.S. and international markets versus the first quarter 2011;
  • Gained share in the U.S. and Europe

Hasbro Announces Its Newest Sustainable Packaging Initiative; Company to Improve Product-to-Packaging Ratios for Range of Global Brands

Effort will reduce environmental impacts by minimizing material used

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- April 10, 2012 -- Global branded play leader Hasbro, Inc. today announced plans to reduce materials used in product packaging for many of its highly popular global brands, including MY LITTLE PONY, NERF and PLAY-DOH. This new initiative will result in an approximate 15 percent improvement in the average product-to-package ratio of brands and products included in the initiative, with retail availability of Hasbro products in the more environmentally-efficient packaging beginning this year.

Over the next two years, retailers and consumers will begin to see an even broader range of packaging efficiencies put in place, including redesigned disposable boxes and blister packs that use less material. As an example, a more efficient package design for the 2013 MY LITTLE PONY assortment pack is expected to reduce the size of shipping containers by 20 percent, creating transportation efficiencies.
