Both 3.75" and 6" lines. Unfortunately, it looks like Bridge Direct will put the bulk of their efforts behind the 3.75" line, as I expected, with the 6" "deluxe" line relegated to a 1 or 2 wave afterthought. Both scales are horrendously expensive, again unsurprising given trends over the last few years.

If we get all of the Dwarves, and a young Bilbo Baggins, I'll be happy. I'm just happy we'll be seeing the denizens of Middle Earth on shelves again.

I remember exactly the day that I went to Toys R' Us back in the summer of 2001 and picked up some of series 1. I had no idea these were even coming from Toy Biz. I picked up Frodo, Gandalf the Grey, Saruman, and Newborn Lurtz. Good times.

I had to Google Bridge Direct. After looking over their portfolio, LOTR collectors should not have high hopes.

Not true. The guys working on the line were the same ones who worked on Play Along's 2 inch Middle Earth line, and the 7 inch Narnia figures which could have easily been integrated into the Toy Biz LOTR line. And if I'm not mistaken, there's a couple of old Toy Biz guys over there working on it, too.

And here...I just dug out one of the old Minotaur figures from Play Along's Narnia figure. In 7 inch scale. Again, THESE are the guys working of the Hobbit line--

Those are bobbleheads, and pop vinyl figures from Funko. They are also making a line of plush. Here are pics of the plush from our facebook. They were shown at Toy Fair.

It's listed as one of the toys in the lineup on the link provided on the first thread.

Ah. But if you scroll down, the Bridge Direct stuff is at the bottom.

Seen this list posted in several locations including: http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1072994-4/

3.75 singles Wave 1:
2x Bilbo Baggins
1x Gandalf the Grey
1x Thorin Oakenshield
1x Legolas
1x Grinnah

3.75 2-packs wave 1:
1x Bilbo Baggins & Gollum
1x Kili & Fili
1x Balin & Dwalin
1x Legolas & Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly)

Deluxe Packs:
Bolg and Gandalf

Beast Pack:
Fimbul and warg

Goblin King Battle Playset

6 inch

Basic wave 1:
1x Bilbo Baggins
1x Gandalf the Grey
2x Thorin Oakenshield
1x Legolas
1x Tauriel

wave 1 deluxe collector figure:
Azog

Anyone in a position to verify this list? Provided it is accurate, a couple of comments:
-Confirms my concern that the 3.75" line will likely have greater diversity and the 6" line will be relegated to a series or two of the main characters. I hope I'm wrong, the line lasts long, and we eventually characters like Fili, Kili, Dwalin, Balin, etc. in the 6" format (as well as in the 3.75" line. I don't begrudge collectors of that scale). I assume this focus on the 3.75" line is due to both the desire to make scale beasts (e.g. Smaug) and the overall trend toward smaller scales in the action figure market, but it is still a disappointing choice given that 1) the expansive Toy Biz line was 6" and those movies are linked to these movies in terms of the creative teams and design aesthetics involved and 2) the majority of the main players in the Hobbit are of smaller stature (Bilbo, dwarves, goblins) and would be 3-4" in the 1/12 (6") scale anyway. In the 3.75" scale, these characters will be 2.5" and will likely suffer in terms of articulation, sculpt and paint apps.
-They're really pushing this Tauriel character, huh? She made it into both scales.
-Assume Grinnah is an orc?? Fimbul with Warg sounds like Golfimbul, who was a Warg-riding orc from Tolkien's mythos.
-Interesting that Thorin, not Bilbo or Gandalf, is the 2 per case in the 6" case assortment.
-I'm still excited at the prospect of seeing LOTR action figures on the pegs again.

I forgot to post this. I actually forgot about it until just now. But I emailed Bridge Direct about the 6 inch scale....

Hello-

Quote:
Just curious.....as a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series, I have already invested and put faith into your toyline coming soon, by putting down money on pre-orders. I have a listing here for the 6 inch collector series (hopefully to keep scale and with the old Toy Biz series) a listing of 5: Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo Baggins, Legolas, Tauriel, and Thorin with a deluxe Azog.

However, my question is--will we be seeing my characters in the 6 inch collector's line, such as the rest of the Dwarves, or perhaps a crack at Gollum?

Thanks for any help you can provide!
-Rick

And I got a pretty fast response!

Quote:
Hi Rick,

Thank you for your interest in The Hobbit, however, we are not at liberty to discuss specific character assortments per restrictions from Warner Brothers and Peter Jackson, but a wide variety of characters will roll out over the next 18 months across both films (film release dates are Dec 2012 and Dec 2013).

Thank you,

Sounds to me like they have pretty long-term plans...

Good to hear; thank you.

Oddly, BBTS no longer has these anywhere on their website. I wonder why

Eh. They still have them on my pre-orders. I wouldn't be too concerned. Probably just another case of BBTS jumping the gun.
